Title (Max 100 Charaters)
CLEVELAND, OH - The Literacy Cooperative will launch a new professional development program – The Teacher’s Academy (TA) – at John Carroll University’s DJ Lombardo Center on November 1, 2011.
The 2011 TA, Highlighting Creativity & Results in Urban Education, targets first and second grade teachers in Cleveland’s 16 first-ring suburban districts. The group of educators will meet for a full-day program of workshops, speakers and cross-district networking, starting at 8 am. The day will also feature presentations from seven area teachers, selected by school administration, who will share their classroom strategies, lead hands-on simulation sessions and provide opportunities for their peers to develop resources and tools that can be immediately utilized in the classroom.
Facilitated by Jim Connell - former superintendent of Berea Schools and professor at Ursuline College – The TA will also feature an academic panel discussion of professors from area colleges and universities, workshops and an opportunity to network.
Each of the 16 districts has been designated a number of participants slots based on the student population size of their district. More than 75 participants, representing all 16 districts are expected.
Participants and presenters will be given certificates that recognize their participation, whichmay be used towards their professional development requirements. Graduate workshop credit will also be available for purchase through John Carroll University.
The TA is designed to identify outstanding teaching and instructional innovation in Cleveland area schools that serve economically disadvantaged students. By identifying, recognizing and providing opportunities for educators to share their creative strategies with their peers, the goal is to share these practices more broadly, inspire other educators and contribute to teacher effectiveness. It’s a program of The Literacy Cooperative’s Capacity-Building Initiatives.
