Firefighter convicted in pay scandal wants early release from jail | News
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO)- 19 Action News has learned the first firefighter convicted in a pay scandal wants out of jail early.
An attorney for Timothy DeBarr filed papers Monday morning. He got sentenced to 60 days in jail, but he's only been there two weeks.
His attorney argues DeBarr has already been "severely punished."
Debarr received full pay and benefits while paying other firefighters under the table to work for him. Investigators say he claimed he traded shifts with other firefighters. Records show he owes more than 4,000 hours to co-workers.
Debarr must also pay a $1,000 dollar fine. He will not have to pay any restitution because the prosecution did not ask him to do so.
Judge Nancy Russo will rule on DeBarr's request to get out of jail.
An investigation into the pay scandal is still continuing.
