Bishop addresses church reopening plan

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO)- Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon met with parishioners Wednesday several of the 12 closed churches to address a reopening plan.

There is still no timetable for the reopening, but parishioners are very pleased about meeting with the Bishop.

Bishop Lennon met with people who attended two of the closed churches on Wednesday afternoon, including a 3 p.m. meeting with parishioners from Saint James. Parishioners will gather at Bishop Lennon's office and talk about their expectations for when their church opens.

All 12 were shut down two years ago by the Bishop, but the Vatican recently overturned that decision and said they could reopen after people from the congregations appealed to Rome.

While major decisions on staffing and other matters have yet to be made, Lennon said he will carry out the directives from the Congregation for the Clergy regarding the following parishes:

Akron: St. Mary and St. John the Baptist Parishes
Bedford: St. Mary Parish
Cleveland: St. Adalbert, St. Barbara, St. Casimir, St. Emeric, St. Patrick, St. Peter and St. Wendelin Parishes
Lakewood: St. James Parish
Lorain: St. Mary Parish

Could you be pulled over for texting?

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO)- If you text while driving in Ohio, you run the risk of receiving a ticket very soon. Or will you?

19 Action News has learned that adults can't be pulled over for it!

What the law requires, is that if you're behind the wheel you've got to put the phone down.  Like the seat belt law, they can't pull you over for it alone, but make a move where you appear distracted and you will be stopped.

Experts say texting is the most dangerous distraction drivers do behind the wheel.

Ohio is the 39th state to ban texting and if busted, you'll be out $150.

False burglar alarms keep police running

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO)- In the past 12 months, Cleveland Police responded 44 times to a burglar alarm at a home on E 77th. However, not one of those alarms was valid.

A police response to unnecessary (false) alarms reduces the overall efficiency of the Division of Police by redirecting officers that could be handling legitimate calls for service or patrolling their assigned neighborhoods.

Of the 11,515 residential alarms dispatched to the Division of Police in 2011, a staggering 10,834 alarms were determined to be "false" alarms. That means an incredible 94% were false.

Cleveland has legislation that provides sanctions to business owners whose repeated false alarms create an unnecessary burden on police. However, there are currently no sanctions on private property owners whose false alarms create a similar burden.

So what's the bottom line?

If you have an alarm system at home, please make sure that it is functioning properly and if it isn't, insist that your alarm company get it fixed as soon as possible.
