Recovery Resources engages with JCU, CSU to offer drug and alcohol services | Health
As the number of college students engaging in high-risk behaviors, such as binge drinking and drug use, rises across the nation, Recovery Resources has been engaged by John Carroll University and Cleveland State University to work with staff to enhance alcohol and drug education and intervention services to students.
Recovery Resources will work with the universities to provide targeted drug and alcohol education to students using evidence-based curricula and cutting-edge behavioral interventions. In addition to prevention activities, Recovery Resources will provide assessments for students in need of in-depth screening for substance abuse issues, and is working with JCU to develop a social norms campaign to address substance abuse on campus. Research shows that initiatives aimed at reducing alcohol problems among college-age youth have been effective, leading to reductions in underage drinking, alcohol-related assaults and emergency department visits.
According to a report from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), each year, drinking by college students aged 18 to 24 contributes to an estimated 1,700 student deaths, 599,000 injuries and 97,000 cases of sexual assault or date rape.
